New ferry routes.

Take the ferry for the price of the subway – great new routes!

Mayor de Blasio christens New York’s first Citywide Ferry with a ride into Brooklyn Bridge Park

To celebrate the ahead-of-schedule launch of the Citywide Ferry service, Mayor de Blasio rode the first ferry (named “Lunchbox” by second graders from Bay Ridge) this morning into Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Pier 1 as part of an official dedication ceremony. Beginning May 1st, all New Yorkers can join in the revelry when the new Rockaway Route and the existing East River Route kick off. Service to South Brooklyn starts in June, and the Astoria route will be launched sometime in August. In all, there will be 21 stops added throughout the city as part of the expanded service. On top of today’s festivities, the city also released the official new ferry schedules.

Making the right choice.

Here is an interesting piece from the Brick Underground in defense of renting instead of buying. The American dream is to own a home, but renting might be the better route in many cases.

In either case I am here to help, rent or buy I can provide you with both options.

Dumbo’s Clocktower Building Finally Sells

Check out this post from the Brownstoner.

“After nine years on the market, the penthouse on top of Dumbo’s Clocktower building at 1 Main Street has finally sold for $15 million.

That’s a discount of $10 million below the original asking price of $25 million.

While it closed for a relatively high price, Friday’s sale does not represent Brooklyn’s most expensive. That honor still belongs to a townhouse at 177 Pacific Street in Cobble Hill, which sold in 2015 for $15.5 million.

The buyer is the Colombian-born art dealer Lio Malca, who lives in Manhattan, according to the Real Deal. The sale has not yet hit public records but was announced by Corcoran Friday.

The apartment previously sold in 2006 for $10,750,000. ”

Real Estate with a story.

“Even during housing crisis, prices dipped less in Carroll gardens than almost anywhere else in the country.

But this price jump from purchase at 3ml to mortgaging at 7ml  as reported on Pardon Me for Asking seems a bit extreme?

“Pardon me for asking, but could it be that Paul J. Manafort, Junior, the veteran Republican strategist and former national chairman to the presidential campaign of Donald Trump, owns a brownstone in Carroll Gardens?
I happened to walk on Union Street between Smith Street and Hoyt Street yesterday afternoon, when I noticed construction debris and several notices taped to the front door of the building at 377 Union Street.
Coincidentally,  I caught up with a local resident who was walking in the same direction.  After exchanging a few pleasantries, the resident asked:
“Did you know that Paul Manafort owns a house on this block?””
